Corna (Planet)

Affiliation:  Imperium

Native Race:  Bac

Main Weapon Produced:  Db Mounted Pistol

Main Ship Produced:  Tumpet Battleship

Description:  Corna was one of the first planets to be "initiated" into the Imperium.  The planet's native inhabitants are friendly enough but certainly not known for their strategic expertise.  They surrendered control almost the moment the Imperium set foot on their planet.

Corna is primarily known for being almost entirely covered by forests and is a popular tourist destination. The bird-like bac live in large nests that most species find fun and/or romantic to stay in.  Because of this the Imperium rarely bothers Corna for anything other than taxes.  They like to think that they are keeping the morale of their citizens high.

Corna is an average sized planet however only a very small portion of it is deemed habitable.  Much of the forest contains deadly plants that can consume a human-sized being.  The ancient bac used to have a tradition of venturing into these more hazardous areas to kill such a plant and claim a trophy of honor.  However, it has been centuries since anyone has attempted such a feat.

Unexpected Talent (Adventure) - Reuben Calloway Saga 6

"Alright, cadets, listen up!  You've got one last test before we start assigning your sorry hides!"

Reuben stood stiffly at attention trying to simultaneously listen to Sargent Vert's instructions and steady his heart rate.  Assignment trials were even more difficult than basic training.  For three solid days the cadets had been pushed to their physical limits.

They had just finished an extremely long run when Sargent Vert had shouted for them to line up in rank order.

"This will be mock combat!  Live ammo will not be used but we will be monitoring who shot who.  Is that clear?"

"Yes, sir!"

"You will be scored based on how long you last.  As soon as you receive your weapon, go!"

"Yes, sir!"

Sergent Kon handed Reuben his weapon and he felt himself immediately go into a sort of automatic pilot state.  He supposed this was want the wanted: very little thinking and all instinct.

A few of the cadets had already charged into the main field and had already shot each other.  A few made an effort to hide behind a rock or a tree.  But for some reason Reuben immediately noticed that they were all running in the same direction to find hiding places.  They were following the pack.

At that point he figured that his best bet was to take a different direction.  He slowed down his running on purpose to let the rest of the cadets pass him up as they charged into the field.  Once he was behind everyone, he veered off the right; taking care to stay out of sight.

He may not be the best shot, but he wasn't terrible and could at least use the element of surprise.  He cautiously made his way from tree to tree until he found one that had limbs low enough to climb.  The tree had thick foliage which seemed to be both good and bad.  The others couldn't see him, but he would have an even harder time aiming.

At last he managed to position himself where he could see through leaves.  It was a perfect spot.  He was just far enough away that his V7 would still be accurate but at the same time the other cadets probably wouldn't be able to tell who shot them.

Lining up his sights, he began to pick off his fellow cadets one by one as they ran by on the field.  He missed about half of the time.  But it didn't matter because, as he suspected, the other cadets where too distracted to notice his shots.

He just hoped he wouldn't get docked for unconventional combat tactics...

Bac (Race)

Home Planet:  Corna

Affiliation:  Imperium

Description:   Bac are a flying species which make their lifestyle somewhat unique compared to other land-locked sentients.  Before the Imperium started to aggressively take over planets, Corna was a popular tourist destination.  People would travel from all over the galaxy to stay in the picturesque tree homes (called "nests").

Bac are slightly shorter than your average human and entirely covered with feathers.  To an outsider, the main noticeable difference between the males and the females is that the males have large feathered crests on their heads while the females do not.

When on land, bac are fully bipedal.  Their upper extremities do have digits that are capable of performing dexterous tasks.  However, this dexterity becomes immobilized while they are in flight as most of their muscles must be devoted to staying in the air.

As a race, the bec are considered to be slightly less intelligent than other species.  They are perfectly capable of technology development but are easily startled and will often act on instinct rather than reason.

Drastic Actions (Adventure) - Gorg Chum Saga 2

Councilor Chum sat in his office staring at nothing.  Though he had been staring at nothing for the past two hours, his mind was a whirl of activity.  His calling was to protect his people by serving his government.  But in this case the government was failing his people.  They needed to at least know about the threat the Imperium posed.

He was loathe to go against the decision of the council.  But protecting his people and his planet was more important to him than a single poor political decision.

He tapped a few buttons on his vid-comm.  The face of Yarmin Derd, his old friend, came up on the screen.

"Gorg!  How are you my friend?"

"I've been better.  I just had a meeting with the council.  They've chosen not to take any action with regard to the Imperium at this time."

Yarmin sat back in his chair and let out a long-suffering sigh.

"They refuse to acknowledge that there's a threat.  You know what this could mean."

"I do."

"I need your advice, old friend.  I need to make this threat seem real to my people."

Yarmin appeared to consider for awhile.  "I'll give you the contact information for this young woman I recently became acquainted with.  She has several... useful... skills.  I suggest that you utilize her."

"What's her name?"

"Calen Natari."

Paid for Services Rendered (Adventure) - Calen Natari Saga 7

Calen returned to the home of her employer two full days after her kill was completed.  She had wanted to make sure she had escaped cleanly.  She spent much of her time wandering the streets and eating in plain view in public eating facilities.  While the assassination was the number one topic of conversation, no one seemed to know that they were sitting next to the assassin herself.

The servant she had seen before answered the door.  He said nothing but merely handed her a data pad and closed the door.  Calen tapped through the data pad; it's only contents being a single address.

She found the address easily enough.  It appeared to be some sort of warehouse on the outside.  She walked in and saw her unnamed employer sitting there smoking something out of a pipe.

"Calen," he nodded in greeting.

"I've come for my reward," she commanded without preamble.  "No tricks or you'll end up like your target."

Her employer chuckled and puffed his pipe.  "Never fear.  There will be no tricks.  Your assassination was brilliant and I am grateful to you."

He motioned for her to follow and they walked deeper into the warehouse.  It was then that Calen finally noticed the lone occupant: a brand new Veolen fighter.

She inhaled in awe.  It looked sleek and fast.  It was black but she could see in certain angles there was a hint of dark blue to the coloring.  It was perfect.

"Do you like it?"

She nodded.  "It's perfect."

"It's yours.  This particular ship has been custom built.  It has more armor than your standard Veolen fighter but is still just as fast and maneuverable."

Calen walked over and ran her hand over the smooth contours of the ship.  "I'll call it Blue Sun to remind me of where I came from."

"Remember your first employer.  I will have need of you in the future."

Failures (Adventure) - Reuben Calloway Saga 5

Reuben Calloway stood stiffly at attention outside Sergent Vert's office.  His basic combat training was completed and every cadet was ordered to report in to get an individual progress report.

The door slid open and the cadet that had been ahead of Reuben marched out.

"NEXT!" Sergent Vert shouted from his office.

Reuben swallowed, schooled his expression, and marched in.  He saluted Sergent Vert.  "First Degree Cadet Calloway reporting in as ordered, sir!"

Sergent Vert returned the salute and then started to scan through a data pad.  "Cadet Calloway, your scores here have been less than exemplary.  You're not failing.  But you're not going to be impressing anyone soon."

"Yes, sir.  I am doing my best to keep up, sir.  I have found basic training to be quite challenging."

Sergent Vert looked Reuben directly in the eye.  "You're going to have to do better than your best, cadet. It's average soldiers like you that get killed first in combat.  Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes, sir!"

"In a few days we'll begin Corp division tests where we will be determining which branch would best suit you.  Try a little harder to impress us."

Reuben felt a bead of sweat trickle down his forehead but his expression remained neutral.  He understood the sergent.  Find a useful skill or get sent straight into the the front lines.

Oboi Fighter/Submarine Hybrid (Ship)

Creators: Zelenca on the planet Shawm

Speed:  5
Armor:  4
Maneuverability:  8

Description:  Truly an engineering feat to behold.  The Oboi Starfighter can seamlessly switch between outer space and water.

This ship was designed to utilize the zelenca's unique ability to breathe in both air and water environments.  While flying above water or in space, the Oboi has an oxygen-based cabin for the single pilot it holds.  As soon as the ship enters the water, the systems switch over to allow water flow through the entire ship.

This feature allows the ship to move through various depth levels with ease since the cabin pressure can adjust quickly.  Essentially, this ship may go as deep underwater as the pilot is able to withstand.

Though lacking slightly in speed and armor, this highly versatile ship certainly gives the zelenca an edge in battle.
