Telema

Home Planet:  Shofar

Affiliation:  Rebellion

Description:  Such a unique planet requires a unique type of creature in order to survive on its surface.  The stubborn telema are the result of billions of years of vicious evolution.  The species has naturally armored skin that allows them to handle the dramatic changes in temperature and gravity.  Their outer armor layers also serve as a regulator for heat and cold loss.

In calling such a planet home the telema are a hardy species.  They require very little nourishment to survive, sleep only a few standard minutes at a time and their skin is impervious to most gunfire.  Their only real vulnerability seems to be a need to go into hibernation every few years even while living away from their homeworld.

Weiss (Race)

Home Planet:  Dulcian

Affiliation:  Imperium

Description:  The serpent-like weiss are something of a peculiarity.  They seem to prefer existing alone for the most part, gathering together only for ritualistic meetings at certain points during the year.  Mating takes place at these gatherings along with any crucial planetary decisions that need to be made.

It is because of this solitary way of life that they decided, as a race, to willingly join the Imperium.  The political unrest of the galaxy is such that they felt it reasonable to take sides with the apparent power.  The weiss have not bothered with developing their space ships past a very rudimentary and they have no standing army.  By allowing the Imperium to occupy their planet, both problems are solved.

Lacking legs, weiss slither like their less evolved cousins.  Their upper half does have a a vaguely humanoid appearance.  On average they only live forty standard years.  But, strangely enough, they seem to possess a wisdom beyond normal sentient beings.  The few studies they have consented to partaking in have shown that weiss see everything eight times faster than the average human.  Which means that through their eyes they experience what humans would consider to be 320 years of life.

Strozzi (Race)

Home Planet:  Kortholt

Affiliation:  Rebellion

Description:  A proud race of humanoid warriors that are strongly dominated by the females.  As a protective evolutionary feature, hard, sharp bones protrude from their bodies to protect the more sensitive areas such as the spine and shoulders.  They tower above the average human by about two feet.

Because of their dangerous exoskeletons, only males of this species have been able to successfully mate with the females and live to tell the tale, their bodies specifically designed to fit the contours of the female.  Because males do not carry the young of such a great race they are considered to be the inferior gender.  The males live freely, not as slaves, but hold large ceremonial battles where they must fight to earn the right to mate.

This species is divided up by tribes but each family seems to live a considerable distance away from each other.  As far as scholars can tell, an extremely advanced trading route seems to exist to allow the strozzi to live in such a fashion.  Though how, exactly, the trade route works remains a mystery.

Strozzi are in favor of the Rebellion but are not thus far actively involved in any of the conflicts that take place outside of their homeworld.  As far as they are concerned, theirs is the superior race.  If the Imperium wishes to convince them differently, they are welcome to try.

Vivald (Race)

Home Planet:  Zink

Affiliation:  Rebellion

Description:  The vivald are not your typical sentient life form.  This race does technically qualify as a plant.  They use sunlight to conduct photosynthesis rather than breathe air.  The gas that their body expels after processing the sunlight is considered to be toxic to most species that are non-native to Zink. It is, perhaps, ironic that despite being highly toxic, vivald are considered to be very exotically attractive.

Vivald do not ingest their food but rather absorb the nutrients they need through their planet's soil.  They are grown from seedlings and mature to a standard bipedal form.  Some choose to grow additional arms or legs.  Each extra limb requires more energy and nutrients to maintain so few choose to modify themselves in such a fashion.  They are capable of regrowing their limbs if any happen to be severed.

As a race, the vivald are openly defiant of the Imperium and have made their planet a safe haven for refugees by devoting a generous portion of planetary resources to creating more universally habitable dwellings.  Coming from any other race, this attitude would smack of overconfidence.  But their confidence is not that unreasonable considering any Imperium soldiers sent in would die if exposed to their would-be prisoners.

Ramea (Race)

Home Planet:  Gemshorn

Affiliation:  Imperium

Description:  Though sentient, the ramea did not end up evolving into a more humanoid form as many intelligent species in the galaxy seem to have done.  Ramea may be noted by their hard exoskeleton, six legs and pincers.  As their entire race exists below Gemshorn's crust, ramea have no optical sensors.  Instead, they "see" using super sensitive hairs on their legs to detect vibrations and sound.

Ramea are perfectly intelligent but have thus far seemed content to submit to Imperium rule.  They achieved space flight before most but never made any move to explore.  Instead, they seem content with their mining operations.  Their prominent pincers serve as the perfect digging tool.

The Imperium has grown reliant on the raw materials produced by the ramea.  But despite their complacency, the ramea are not to be trusted.  It has been rumored that no ambassador has ever returned from a diplomatic mission to the planet.

Bac (Race)

Home Planet:  Corna

Affiliation:  Imperium

Description:   Bac are a flying species which make their lifestyle somewhat unique compared to other land-locked sentients.  Before the Imperium started to aggressively take over planets, Corna was a popular tourist destination.  People would travel from all over the galaxy to stay in the picturesque tree homes (called "nests").

Bac are slightly shorter than your average human and entirely covered with feathers.  To an outsider, the main noticeable difference between the males and the females is that the males have large feathered crests on their heads while the females do not.

When on land, bac are fully bipedal.  Their upper extremities do have digits that are capable of performing dexterous tasks.  However, this dexterity becomes immobilized while they are in flight as most of their muscles must be devoted to staying in the air.

As a race, the bec are considered to be slightly less intelligent than other species.  They are perfectly capable of technology development but are easily startled and will often act on instinct rather than reason.

Zelenca (Race)

Home Planet:  Shawm

Affiliation:  Rebellion

Description:  At first glance, the zelenca have obvious aquatic origins.  Their entire bodies are coated with blue-green scales, their mouths are never quite closed and their feet and hands are webbed.  Though zelenca are bipedal, they still retain their ability to move through water efficiently.  When swimming, a thin membrane fuses their legs together forming a single caudal fin.

Zelenca are able to breathe both air and water though they prefer to live under the ocean surface rather than above it.  They are more or less a peaceful race due to the fact that they posses an extra sense when they work together in groups.  This allows them to wordlessly communicate in an almost telepathic manner.

Though the zelenca are peaceful, they are hardly defenseless.  The zelenca have become famous for creating some of the most technologically advanced battleships.  The Imperium would be willing to risk quite a bit to discover some of their creating techniques.

Human (Race)

Home Planet:  Tabor

Affiliation:  Imperium

Description:  Centuries of feuding finally became resolved when the humans united under one central government called the Imperium.  The Imperium was established in an effort to govern the new planets humans had set out to colonize.

Though biologically inferior to some other races, humans are extremely creative which has lead to impressive technological development.  This technological dominance has encouraged other planets and races to join the Imperium for protection.  In order to protect the growing empire, the Imperium requires every able individual to serve as a soldier for five Taborian years.

This system of military servitude has worked for the most part and has encouraged the humans to become slightly more aggressive in their pursuit of adding new planets to the Imperium.   The humans tend to be very proud of their accomplishments.  Other races not part of the Imperium are starting to worry about galactic stability.

Scarlati (Race)

Home Planet:  Rebec

Affiliation:  Rebellion

Description:  A race toughened by nomadic desert hardships.  Humanoid in form.  They have no hair on their bodies, only thick lizard-like skin that looses very little moisture when out in the sun.  Experts have speculated that the original Scarlati ancestors may have been cold-blooded, similar to your average reptile, and then later became warm-blooded to allow for nighttime activity.

Deeply spiritual, the scarlati largely exist in separate nomadic tribes that are fiercely loyal to their own.  This has naturally lead to some civil wars.  A few of the more powerful tribes have managed to create permanent cities.  Though the tribes frequently feud, one thing the entire race seems to agree on is that they have no love for the Imperium.
